About me

Prior to training as a Psychodynamic Counsellor, I worked in the NHS for over 15 years in a variety of operational and strategic roles. I spent many years working within children’s services, where I saw the profound long-term impact of trauma on children and young people, seeing first hand the importance of having a safe and nurturing environment in order to grow emotionally. This is in part what drew me towards training as a Psychodynamic Counsellor working with adults, as the experiences of our early lives, good or bad, do not disappear when we leave our childhood behind.

This is not to say that all people seeking counselling have experienced trauma or particularly challenging childhoods; just as it can help to repair old wounds, counselling can also provide a supportive structure within which to consider current difficulties. If we spend time thinking about past experiences, it is not with an aim of finding fault with your previous choices or the ones of those around you, but rather to increase your awareness of how they may be continuing to impact on you, thereby loosening their hold on you in the present day.
